We are a non-profit group based in Southeast Louisiana with the mission of education about and conservation of (specifically Louisiana’s) Alligator Snappers. While not endangered, there is a concensus in the environmental community that the Alligator Snapper's numbers are declining. Our aim is to institute programs that will help the turtles rebound, and to possibly once again be plentiful in Louisiana, as well as, throughout the rest of its habitat. Secondary to these goals, we also seek to raise awareness of the Alligator Snapper's plight, create a community, and have a little fun.
Our first undertaking is to develop an area for raising and breeding our turtles. Several members have small pens and ponds in their back yard's, but the scale of this endeavor requires a much larger area than any of us can currently accomodate. Locally owned Cajun Pride Swamp Tours has kindly donated the use of part of its land and a pond for the project. What we currently need is monetary donations and turtle eggs.
